Why 30 Minutes Is the Sweet Spot for Desk Worker Massage
If you work at a desk, your neck already knows the story. Hours of looking down at a screen or hunching over a keyboard pull the head forward and round the shoulders. Over time that posture tightens the muscles at the base of the skull, across the tops of the shoulders, and between the shoulder blades. We call it tech neck, and most of our Arcadia patients feel it by Wednesday.
A focused 30 minute massage is built for exactly this. Thirty minutes is enough time for a therapist to work the neck, shoulders, and upper back with real intention, without the session drifting into areas that do not need attention. You get in, the tension gets worked out, and you get back to your day. That is why most of our patients book 30 minutes. It fits a lunch break and it fits the problem.
When should you choose 60 minutes? When the tension has been building for months, when it has spread down the back or into the arms, or when you simply want the full reset. Sixty minutes lets the therapist slow down, layer in more techniques, and address the hips and low back that desk sitting also punishes.
Either way, the fix is the same: regular care beats the occasional rescue mission. A 30 minute session once or twice a month keeps desk tension from becoming a permanent resident.
